gotta love Bill Maher

He says it so well:

Why is it that our democracy seems to have been replaced (without many noticing) by capitalism? Yes, our system was founded on a right to property. That meant if you owned it, it was yours. It didn't mean that everything had to be owned. Health care, prisons, education, and government itself seem like areas of the economy that should not be subject to the free market. The free market does some things great; I love my iPhone. When it comes to my father's, mother's, or husband's health care, though, I'd like the free market profit motive to be as far away from the decisions as possible.

We used to make some decisions based on what was good for the public. I think it even had a special name...oh, that's right, for the public good. I think we should probably start doing that again.

Does this sound too Commie for you? Fine, try moving to one of those no-government paradises in the world. What's that? There aren't any? Oh... well, I guess you're stuck here then, huh?
